les playlist – volume four

The fourth instalment of les playlist, compiled by Boiler Shop founder Richard Clouston.

Richard Clouston is the founder of Boiler Shop, a fiercely independent live music and arts venue in Newcastle upon Tyne. It serves the city’s famously rambunctious appetite for fun and deep desire for culture. The venue is a Grade 2* Listed Building, first opened in 1823 for the world’s first purpose built locomotive factory, Robert Stephenson & Co. The space was restored in 2016, creating a unique 1000-cap state-of-the-art space just behind Central Station where trains slide from North to South and back again. Out of lockdown, you’ll be able to see some of the best musicians, DJs, and cultural events go down there. With all future events postponed for the time being, we asked Richard to come up with a playlist that celebrates everything Boiler Shop, and the good times that will eventually happen again there.

“These are favourite tracks on my lockdown list”

Tell us about your playlist and your inspiration behind it.

These are favourite tracks on my lockdown list from artists we’re really proud to have had play at Boiler Shop.

Which song from the playlist is your favourite?

Lost In Music is my raison d’être and Sister Sledge covered by The Fall is a perfect imperfect match. MES forever!

What do you do at les girls les boys?

What’s on your les girls les boys wish list?

Socks to wear when I eventually get to sleep.

What do you miss, if anything, during lock down?

Not being able to open my venue! But looking forward to again seeing the thousands of revellers we welcome every week. Find out more about the Boiler Shop here.
